PE & Sport Premium Funding

Funding details

The government has provided additional funding of £150 million per annum to improve provision of physical education (PE) and sport in primary schools. This funding - provided jointly by the Departments for Education, Health and Culture, Media and Sport - is allocated to primary school headteachers.

This funding is ring-fenced and therefore can only be spent on provision of PE and sport in schools.

This year the government announced an increase in the amount of Sports premium funding allocated to schools. Our school will receive, in two instalments, a total of £18,100.

How to use the PE and Sport Premium

Schools must use the funding to make additional and sustainable improvements to the quality of PE and sport they offer.

This means schools should use the premium to:

  • develop or add to the PE and sport activities your school already offers
  • make improvements now that will benefit pupils joining the school in future years

For example, funding can be used to:

  • hire qualified sports coaches to work with teachers
  • provide existing staff with training or resources to help them teach PE and sport more effectively
  • introduce new sports or activities and encourage more pupils to take up sport
  • support and involve the least active children by running or extending school sports clubs, holiday clubs and Change4Life clubs
  • run sport competitions
  • increase pupils’ participation in the School Games
  • run sports activities with other schools

Our Vision for PE at Walton on the Hill

We are fully committed to ensuring our children are fit, healthy and active learners.  We aspire to be a school that offers every child the opportunity to fulfil their absolute potential, and we realise the vital role sport and outdoor learning need to play in realising those goals.  We want our children to make healthy choices, to enjoy physical activity and to appreciate its benefits while embodying our core values of collaboration and fair play.  The Sports Premium money we receive will be spent in a number of ways with the ultimate intention of providing high quality sustainable PE provision for all.  The impact will be measured through participation and achievement in sport, but also through pupil’s engagement in every other area of the curriculum, and through improved self-esteem, health and well-being.
